I could not help but take this picture. As you can see we have covered our sofa with a sheet so that the dogs can get up there while we drive. We also cover our driver and navigator seats if the dogs are left in the motorhome. It's easier to wash sheets than clean the sofa or leather chairs! We were pleasantly surprised that Apollo did not fuss all day! (Maybe a little when he saw the Great Salt Lake, but he's a lab!)
Today we traveled from Elko to Salt Lake City. It was a fairly easy drive, not much wind and not too far to go in one day. The route (I-80) takes you up and down the mountains so Gary needed to use his engine brake once in awhile. One downhill was straight and not too steep and he let the RV coast (we got 99 mpg!) but the speed got a little too high. You can see on the monitor above that we were at 78.5 mph at one point.
When we got settled into our camp we drove in to Temple Square. We went to the Joseph Smith History Center where they have a church distribution store and bought a few things for the temple. We will come back late July or early August when we spend some time with cousin Donna and take a few days to go to the temple and the genealogy library.
After dinner we took the dogs for a walk around the campground. It's only 3 years old and the trees are still quite small, but it is nice, if you like cement driveways with little strips of grass. I would rather have a more primitive type camp, but with a big RV and stopping in a big city you take what you get!
The next few nights we will dry camp in Flying J truck stops or something similar. We have reservations in Greenwood, NE (outside Omaha/Winter Quarters) for the weekend as July 4th is on Sunday. We also made reservations for Keokuk, IA (near Nauvoo) for the 5th & 6th and for a campground in Milton, WV for the weekend Dave & Doris will spend with us. We could not find a place in Charleston to camp but Milton is just a half hour down the road.
We are just relaxing this evening. Gary thinks he solved one problem on the high frequency waves from his radio - at least the slideout does not move when he tunes up the radio. The awning is another problem he will have to tackle! I think we'll just watch TV, figure out our travel for tomorrow and Gary will do his ham radio thing.
I hope everyone who reads this is happy and healthy!
