Gary Celebrates by Not Having His Picture Taken!

We stayed the night at a Pilot Truck Center and got up early to get on the road.  One thing we noticed was that  a few hours after we filled up with fuel the price of diesel went up 12 cents a gallon!  Boy, were we lucky we were ahead of the price hike!  Gary just got another year older today but didn't seem different at all!

On our way west we traveled through the Sonoran Desert National Monument.  There were hundreds of the Sahuara (sp?) cactus.  It was amazing to see all the different configurations of their limbs.

As we were driving by I tried to find baby cactus as I was worried the cactus might not be reproducing.  I finally found some of them that were only about 2 foot high so I think we are okay!

It was a really bright sunny day and I hoped to get that idea across in the picture but I guess I need some photo lessons.

We stopped at a rest stop to stretch and enjoy the weather.  This poster was one of about 10 information posters at this sight and I enjoyed reading all of them!
After driving through a lot of flat desert we had a chance to go through some mountains just before Yuma.

On the other side of the mountain pass we got our first view of Yuma.  I was surprised how big it was.  I guess there are more snowbirds coming here than I realized as it is quite spread out and we passed several RV resorts on the way to find ours.
After getting settled in to our new space Gary and I went out to celebrate his birthday.  One of the staff at the Southern Mesa RV Park, "Stretch", told us about a Mexican restaurant called Salsa Taco so that's where we headed.  It was a simple but good place to go and we spent some time there just relaxing!  On the way back to camp we stopped at a Wells Fargo Bank to get some cash for our RV wash & wax that we are having done on Saturday.  Gary gets to let someone else do the work!

We walked around our camp.  It's an older campground but the owners are trying to keep it looking nice.  This cactus was in the garden of one of the permanent residents here.  I would guess at least 25% are here year round.
Near the front of the camp is a nice grassy area in front of their clubhouse.  They have activities scheduled every day including games, potlucks, entertainment and meals.

As usual, our pictures are taken in reverse order.  this pond is the first thing you see when you turn in to the park.......

and this is the sign you see before you make the turn!

We have our own palm tree to decorate our space.  Each space has a cement patio area and enough room to park your vehicle on the other side of it.
We will have the motor home washed and waxed so we are not putting out anything extra that might get in the way otherwise I would have the awning out, maybe some lights, etc.  I like to make our space seem cozy when I know we will be there for a few days.
If you noticed, there were no pictures of Gary today.  He said he didn't look any different today than he did yesterday or will next week so I could take one of him another time!  Happy Birthday, Gary!
