Today was a long day worrying about my Dad - and Mom. I am happy to say that the surgery went fine. Dad is in ICU at Carson Tahoe Hospital as they continue to monitor him. Lynn said his blood flow is good and his heart monitor looks normal at this point. It is really hard being so far away when you know it would be better to be there with my family. I hope to talk to Mom - and Dad, tomorrow. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers you may have said on their behalf.
We decided to leave San Antonio this morning and head west. When we started the landscape was green and lush. It was still a little foggy and I think the humidity was almost 100%. We slowly started drying out and seeing less greenery. By the end of today's drive we were back in sagebrush and desert scape and the humdity was down to 8%!

It took awhile to wind our way out of the freeway system in San Antonio. At many places there were 3, 4 or 5 roadways crossing over each other with many possible options on which way to go. We just kept our eye out for signs that said I-10 and El Paso and managed to get out of the city just fine. The majority of today was traveling on roadways like the one above.

Texas has rest stops, parking areas and picnic areas. This is just a parking area off the side of the interstate that we used for a time out and a little stretch. We decided to leave San Antonio this morning and head west. I told Gary he needed to take my picture so I would have proof that I really was on this trip! Being the main photographer doesn't get me in a picture too often.
How would you like to be traveling down the road and see this vies in front of you? He was traveling in the same direction as us - being towed behind another truck!
You can probably see a more desert like landscape here. The day was not a real clear day but seemed to be clearing up the later it got in the afternoon,
We are stopped at a truck stop in Fort Stockton, Texas. When we filled up with fuel (diesel was $3.99/gallon) they gave us a dinner credit for $9 to use in their deli. Gary had taquitos and I had corndogs and we both had a soda and still would have had credit to buy more but we were fine with what we had. We have been in the RV since eating - Gary watching Star Trek and other such movies while I organized our notebook of trip information. We couldn't get the internet to work at first so I waiting until now to get working on the blog!!
Tomorrow our destination is Deming, New Mexico. They are supposed to be the Chile growing capital. If we can we will try to check out the products they may have. Maybe there will be an information center about their industry. It's windy tonight but the skies are clearing so we expect morning temperatures about 46 degrees. Enough said for today - I am going to challenge Gary to a game or two of cribbage!
