Every time I see this bank I cringe. Why would anyone ever chose THIS for a name of a bank? It must be something about being East of the Mississippi - I can't think of any other reason!!!
Even though it was a rainy day Gary, Doris and I headed for the Latta Plantation. On the land that was originally part of the plantation there are now some horse trails, canoe "put-in" areas and a raptor center

Like other historic houses, we were not allowed to take any pictures inside the plantation house. This young man named Matthew was our guide and he did a great job explaining life just after the revolutionary war when America was just getting settled. It was quite an exciting time for the colonists.
This house on the plantation was actually modeled after houses in Philadelphia as this is where Mr. Latta spent time every year. It is not quite the "Tara" look that many people think of when they think of plantations. Cotton was the eventual crop that sustained the people of this area.
The house behind the split rail fence is the oldest house from Mecklenburg County, the county that includes the city of Charlotte, NC . Since it was raining we did not walk all the way out to take a closer look, but I don't think we were allowed in it anyway.

I couldn't help but include this picture as THE END of our tour!

These cute little lambs turned just as I was taking the picture - could not have planned it any better.
Tonight we spent a quiet evening with Dave and Doris, had Mexican Meatloaf, played more Sequence games and then watched "The Biggest Loser" on TV. It has sure been nice spending time with them as we have always lived too far away to do that. We are trying to make some plans to meet them for some RVing next year. I know they would love to get on the road, too! Blue Belle and Apollo will both be sad when we leave. Apollo was just getting the idea of how to play with other dogs!
Tomorrow we will head for Atlanta. We do have to watch out for weather as there have been tornado watches in the counties to our south. All the more reason for Gary to have his Ham Radio working and a place we can get WIFI for our computer.
West, young man!
