Blue Belle was ready each morning for Apollo to come out and play. The two dogs did have a great time. I can't believe I was able to get them each to sit still while I took the next photo!
Our time with Dave and Doris was great. We have never been able to spend that much time together before. We stayed busy each day and usually played games in the evening. Their home and property is beautiful and the area they live in is a nice "rural" area that is still close enough to all the conveniences. We left in the morning about 9 am and Doris shot the next picture as we were leaving. Poor Blue Belle.

Our route needed to be changed for the day. We watched the Weather Channel before we left and saw the storm coming our way. We tried going south toward Columbia, SC to avoid getting involved, with plans to head west to Atlanta from there. Our hope was to let the predicted bad weather go north and east as we went south and west. Sounded good, anyway!
Gary had just fixed his Ham Radio so he put out a call to check on weather. He met a man named Kevin on the radio so we chatted all the way to Columbia. Just before we were to part our ways we stopped to physically meet. It was a nice break for the drivers and the dogs!
Now we were headed west on I-20 and the weather did not look so hot. Gary was able to talk to another ham operator as we drove and he looked up the weather ahead of us. It was finally decided to stop at a Flying J to get more information.
This Dutch Star parked right next to us at Flying J. He was on his way to the NASCAR race at Darlington Raceway and was traveling East. His friend from Atlanta area told him the storm coming thru was pretty severe. We set up our rig along the edge of the parking lot, put down some stablizing jacks and went into the restaurant for dinner and more information. The waitress said a tornado had touched down not too far out of the area so we decided to stay put. About 1/2 hour later the first of the downpour began and we sat snugly (sp?) in our motorhome, and kept watch on the Weather Channel. Lightning, thunder and HUGE drops of rain were part of our "entertainment" for the evening. I know it would not been entertaining had a tornado come, and we were lucky. We ended the evening watching "Rio Bravo" with John Wayne, Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson.
As much as I would have loved to continue with our original plans to see Atlanta, we chose plan B and decided to leave those sites for another time. We will head straight to Mississippi in hopes of finding a little better weather.
