Even though we couldn't go in the house I did take pictures through the old glass in the windows - they came out pretty good, but can't fit everything here.
This is in the back of the house, near the garden. We set the camera on the step and let it take our picture! Doris was having a lot of trouble with her knee today and by evening she was really in pain. I told her it was probably because we were causing her to walk too much, but she disagreed.
While on our walk to the stream behind the stone house the historian told us about these plant. I can't remember the whole name, but they start with May! Anyway, he said that research was being done on these plants. They are poisonous, but the berry on them was supposed to be a possible way to help fight cancer. It sure would be great if that remains true.
We ate lunch at a Subway in Granite Quarry and I think this was nearby. The historian had told us about this prison and said we would find lots of interesting information at the cemetary within the "compound". We will have to look another time as we needed to get ready to go see Aunt Eleanor and Cousin Barbette!
Barbette just had foot surgery this week so she was staying with her Mom for the extra care she needed. We brought lasagna, salad and breadsticks for an early dinner (I say "we" but it was really Doris who made it!) and then we sat on Aunt Eleanors porch and enjoyed it. She made rice pudding for dessert and it was good! While we were together I made some phone calls to find out what hospital Uncle Robert was in so we could get an update. By acting like I knew what I was doing I was able to get the phone number to his room at the intermediate care facility he was in at Buffalo. His son Bobby (my cousin) answered and said he was showing improvement by moving his legs, starting to do some talking and starting to wake up. He had an aneuresm (sp?) in his brain and had been in a coma, so this was really good news. He does have some pneumonia in one lung, but that is to be expected in his condition. Anyway, it was great to hear the good news.

Before we left the girls took one last picture together. It was great to be there for the afternoon and wish we could see each other more often. Oh, I almost forgot. My cousin Deb called from Texas while we were there so I got to talk to her, too! It sounds like she is doing well and will look forward to emailing her with more updates.
Family is great! Tomorrow we will meet Alison in Raleigh and spend some time visiting while we see a little more North Carolina.
More beautiful green countryside!
