We actually slept in this morning (8:30 am) and were just getting up when we heard the blast of a horn. I just figured someone in our group was excited about the Mardi Gras but we soon found out it marked the beginning of a 10k run! By time we were decent enough to go outside the crowd of runners had dwindled and we saw small groups going by for the next 20 minutes. Good for them!
We went to the tent for morning goodies and visited with a few people before we left to go into town. We figured today was a good day to try to fix our kitchen faucet so we headed for a Home Depot or Lowe's. Lowe's was the winner as we came upon them first.
Gary went under the sink so we had to take everything out before he could work. I got to hand tools back and forth to him and occasionally held the flashlight. It was a pretty quick fix for him but still tweaked his neck a little. Darn it.
He finished in time for us to go to our first official excursion meeting.
Besides giving basic information (like where to meet the bus, etc.) we also had a chance to crown the King & Queen of the Mardi Gras Rally. The person who found a plastic baby in the traditional "King Cake" got the honors of serving as our royalty.
It was hard to see our royalty from the back of the tent so we went up close to congratulate them and take their picture.
We were able to spend some time meeting a few more rally members and then said our "good night" and headed back to the rig. It will be cold tonight, maybe even record cold for New Orleans. They are expecting it to get to the freezing point. We'll be able to keep warm and cozy!!!
Tomorrow we go on our first trip into the city to watch 2 parades and see what the Mardi Gras atmosphere is like. It should be mostly sunny so if the wind doesn't come up we should have a nice day.......can't wait to see and experience all the fun.
