Thursday - We Made It!

We left Dayton, NV on Wednesday, February 1st and traveled 2334 miles to our Mardi Gras destination in New Orleans, LA.  That means we averaged 292 miles per travel day - I had to do some kind of math so I wouldn't get rusty!
The RV hit a bump when I was trying to take the Welcome to Louisiana sign, but you get the idea.
Most of our scenery today was contained to the tree lined roadway.  It is nice to see so much green after several days of desert.
We stopped in Lafayette and saw this sign painted on their freeway under-crossing.  It's nice to see support for the local schools!
When we didn't have tree lined roadways it was usually because we were on a causeway with swamp land all around us.
Here's proof we were getting closer to the gulf and New Orleans - we were actually traveling below sea level!
The mighty bridge ahead will take us across the Mississippi River.  We ended up crossing it twice today on the way to our campground.
Barges are a normal scene traveling up or down the river.
I tried to get a picture of the entrance to our camp - it did not work very well.  Our camp is at a Louisiana State Park called Bayou Segnette.  When we checked in with our Adventure Caravan Trail Bosses we found out that we have internet available so we will be able to keep up on our blog!!

This gives you an idea of the large campsite we have.  Behind us, in the trees, is part of the Bayou.  For some reason they put our table and barbeque on the driver's side of the site, but that's okay as we will probably do most of our eating inside our rig or the group tent.

This is the tent that is set up for our group.  The leaders have all the tables decorated in Mardi Gras theme and there are beads hanging from the ceiling throughout the entire tent. We were each given an Adventure Caravan windbreaker, poncho & name tag.  They even had nametags for Apollo and Lady and were disappointed when we said we decided not to bring our dogs! We found out that 45 rigs are registered for this event and we will have two buses to transport us to all of our activities.  The official activities begin tomorrow.

Today we walked around our camp loop, found that we have FREE laundry at the park and our group members were each given 4 tickets for free sewer service during our stay. They are taking care of us already.

Gary and I took a short drive into the local community and went to Home Depot for a tool, The P.O. to send off a couple letters (bills), Wendy's for lunch, and Piggly Wiggly for groceries!  It started raining while we were out and has lightly rained all day so when we got back to the rig we just enjoyed looking at our itinerary for the week, played a few games, watched TV and worked on our computers.  It is nice to just relax before all the hoopla begins!
