Off Road to Murfreesboro (Fri 4/24)

We considered ourselves "off-road" as we left the I-40 corridor and headed southeast through Oklahoma - our destination today is Murfreesboro, Arkansas. Yesterday we saw oil rigs set up to find oil, today we say working oil pumps on the ranches. I missed getting a picture of the rig in the field with all the cattle! By the way, before we started off for the day we did fill up with diesel at the casino - $1.86 per gallon, Jason!
This was a typical town along the way. I think the name of this one is Coalwell, OK. I really liked seeing the towns up closer though I know it is a little harder to drive our motorhome in areas where there are a lot more stops to make.
This bridge was one of several we crossed today. We also kept seeing modular homes being transported - I guess they were to help people displaced by the tornadoes last week. We have been keeping careful watch of the weather forecasts in our driving direction. If you can see the rig on the other side of the bridge, it was another modular home. Thankfully he waited until we passed over the bridge as there was not enough room for both of us.
This roadsign is really clean, its our windows that have found all the bugs that make it look blurry!Posted by Picasa
I finally saw armidillos - but they were all roadkill. I guess they are nocturnal, so our chances of seeing a live one are not so good. There is a lot of roadkill on these smaller roads - makes sense to have so many "Roadkill Cafes" around!
We found a beautiful Corp of Engineers camp on the edge of this lake, just north of Murfreesboro, Ar. It had table, bbq, campfire ring, lantern hooks and electricity - all for $15 a night. We were about 30 feet from the water! There is also an ampitheater, hiking trails, a boat ramp, a children's playground and showers! I highly recommend this place.
Of course, this was fine with Apollo. He played in the water for at least an hour before we made him get out. Locals from Murfreesboro come here to fish - lots of big mouth bass from what I understand.
Tomorrow we go to hunt for diamonds!

  1. hi Pam. Just so you know, the post from today had several question marks where I believe pictures should be.
Thanks for all the updates. It's really fun to see the pictures, and it just makes me want to go RVing!

  2. Cathy,
Thanks for the note. The WIFI is soooo slow that it is taking forever to post anything. I'm glad you are enjoying the journal. It IS fun to go RVing!
