Can you believe we were going to dig for diamonds? At Crater of Diamonds State Park you pay $7 for a digging license and then can use your own tools or rent some of theirs to go out to the diamond fields. They just had someone find a 2 carat diamond two days ago and some people are "regulars" that spend their day searching for the diamonds. We didn't bring Apollo but there was a man there with a yellow lab who said he was trying to train his dog to "sniff" out the diamonds!
Gary and I both tried to dig, sift and finally just use our hands to find something valuable, but had no luck. That's okay because at least we had the experience!
After eating lunch at a nice Mexican restaurant in town we headed for the Indian burial site. It was a little commercialized but still had some interesting excavations to look at. They replaced actual human bones with plaster replicas but the history and site are real.
Lynn, this last picture is for you. Across the parking lot from the Indian site was this horse ranch selling Peruvian Pasos. I could not get any closer to the horses, but it's the thought that counts!
After we returned to camp we let Apollo play games in the water again. It would be much more fun for us if he would bring the ball back to us and drop it - doesn't happen. We have to wait for him to finally drop it and then he starts barking as if he has been waiting for us all the time! When we finally got him out of the water we took a hike on the nature trail to give him time to dry off. The trail was only about a mile or so of walking but it was nice.
