The First Three Days

Traveling without an internet connection makes it harder to keep up on our journal. Today we arrived in Flagstaff and are sitting in an internet cafe to do our blog. Of course, I forgot to bring the camera, so we will have to update with pictures next time we reach an internet site.

Tuesday we finally left Camp Youngberg and got on our way. We found rain about Modesto, which lasted until Chowchila. The crosswind stayed with us all day. Our engine light kept coming on (low fuel pressure) because of an alteration Gary made to the engine, but we still got 10 mpg! Apollo seemed to be a happy dog - we only gave him 3 Benadryl! Our night was spent at the Flying J in Bakersfield and the rain caught up to us there.

We left Bakersfield about 8 am Wednesday morning and headed east on Hwy 58. A little rain came near the windmills, but a tailwind made Gary happy. Apollo was much calmer, though we did not give him any medicine today. It was nice to see the sun when we reached the desert as it was quite cloudy up until then. The AIR HORN WORKS! It must have been the traveling that set the air horn right, but at least we don't have just a wimpy car horn to listen to. We stopped at Moabi Regional Park on the Colorado River, where we stayed last June. Apollo couldn't wait to get out of the RV and headed straight for the river! We let him swim and play in the water for about an hour. Grocery shopping in Needles was our excursion for the day but we did take a 2 mile walk after having dinner. Reservations were made for our next two stops, Black Barts in Flagstaff and High Desert RV in Albuquerque.

Today we left Needles about 8 am. Travel was easy and we only had 200 miles to go, all uphill! We passed up the turnoffs to the Grand Canyon ( a first, as we always go there!) and are now camped at Black Barts RV Park in Flagstaff. We understand that it will get to freezing or below tonight so we will prepare for the coldest weather we may meet.

Will write again when we find a WIFI spot and promise to post pictures, too.
