Santa Fe or Bust! (4/15)

Today we traveled to Santa Fe, about an hour's drive north on I-25. It's at about 7000 ft and the weather was cold and windy. We drove straight to the visitor's center in historic Olde Town to check our sights to see.

The first stop was the oldest church in the US.

The oldest house in the US was around the corner from the church. It wasn't open so we just looked from the outside. It was interesting to see the two door sizes. We also saw the different size doors in the restaurant where we ate lunch.

A few streets away was the church with the spiral staircase. It 's famous for the staircase because it had no supports and was made with no nails.

After seeing the church we looked at a couple shops and bought some gifts, then went to eat lunch at "The Shed". It's a "New Mexican " restaurant that has been in Santa Fe for 50 years! Our lunch was a little "hot" (their mild!) but it was really good. Next door to the restaurant I found a watch with turquoise and coral stones which is now on my wrist!

As we headed home we stopped at the "Jackalope" trading post. It was about 5 acres but we only looked at the first "store." Of course, we bought a couple gifts then left for Albuquerque. A headwind greeted us as we drove past many pueblos, each with its own casino - sorry, Dad!
