We woke up to a clear day in Flagstaff - no snow! We got on the road about 8:30 am expecting to drive about 320 miles to Albuquerque. As you can see by the picture above it soon started to cloud up and we actually had about 10 drops of rain (sounds like Dayton!) After a fuel stop in Winslow, AZ (and a potty stop for Apollo) we were really on our way.

We had lots of mesas to go by and this one was up close and personal! As we rode along we had a little Easter celebration by reading scriptures in the Bible - Matt 28, Mark 16, Luke 24 and John 20-21, for those who wish to do the same! We did stop at Navajo, AZ for lunch at a Subway, our favorite sandwich stop.

It wasn't too long before we came to the New Mexico border. (If you ever want to see the pictures in the blogs on a larger scale, just click on them and you should get a full screen edition. I found that out by accident as I am still learning to blog!). After Gallup, NM we were waiting for the Continental Divide. I'm glad I took a picture of the sign saying that it was coming up as we never did see an official sign along the road. I expected to see a sign telling the elevation, etc. It seemed like a rather casual event to me.

Soon after we passed the Continental Divide we started seeing lava rock. There were signs indicating an ice cave and volcano, so I guess we knew our rocks!

The clouds got darker and we could see rain in the distance, but we never got in any of the rain. We did notice the wind picking up as the day went by, but at least it came to us diagonally from the NW - better than a true crosswind. We crushed several tumble weeds, but that was the worst that happened. Apollo also kept his eyes out for any sign of livestock and let us know if any cows or horses were to be seen!

The rest stop above was real nice, but it was too windy to stay outside. We were only about 60 miles from our destination at this point.

This is the symbol of New Mexico. I think that one side represents the four directions of the wind and one side represents the four basic elements of wind, water, earth and sun? I will find out about it again and fill in the missing parts. I found this at the rest stop. Pretty neat, huh?
We are now in our camp at High Desert RV. We stayed here last year on our Southwest Tour with Heather, Jason, kids and Grandpa Wally. They are completely full for the next week as many people going to the rally are either using this as a temporary stop, or staying here during the rally itself. I'm glad locals are receiving some economic boost from having the rally in town.
Just a few facts about our trip:
- We've driven 21 hours, 17 minutes in the RV
- We've traveled 1127 miles in the RV
- We've used 116.6 gallons of diesel
- We've averaged 9.7 mpg (up from our previous overall rate of 7.6 mpg!) I guess the new adjustment Gary made to the engine is working!
I need to help Gary with some problem on the truck so will end our blog for the day. I hope all had a great Easter celebration.
