Beautiful Drive, A Necessary Repair & Happy Dogs!

We watched hundreds of RV's stream out of the Kentucky Expo Center this morning and were probably one of the last ones to leave. That's okay - we only needed to drive about 60 miles! It was nice to see the beautiful green trees, grasses and rock formations along the way.
Today's drive was an easy one going south on I-65 to Elizabethtown, KY. I always love to see the geologic formations along the way. We did stop at a diesel truck repair shop today as we had not had any luck finding a tailpipe for our motorhome that Gary could put on by himself. The one we bought at the Rally didn't work because the flange was on the wrong end!
You can see why we needed to get the tailpipe - the heat from the exhaust had melted our turn signal and coated our truck with black residue. Gary had already cleaned the front of the truck twice!

The nice chrome tail pipe now points down and will protect our tow vehicle! The mechanic needed to alter the piece to fit on our exhaust system - something Gary could not do with the tools we had with us. It's done.
We are staying in a campground that we got for 1/2 price! We joined Camp Club USA while we were at the rally and we will have saved most of the yearly fee by staying at this camp! Can you tell we have happy dogs? The first thing we did after setting up camp was to let the dogs take a swim. It's just a pond and a little muddy, but they don't care. I just figure I'll have to spray them and all they touch with Febreze until we are ready to leave. They will get a quick bath to get all the stink off them before we pack up to head west.

This little girl, whose name is Heather, thought the dogs were really great! She was worried about them drowning and was amazed that they could swim out to retrieve the frisbee Gary would toss out in the water. We let them play, swim and run for quite a while so they could get a little exercise. Being on a leash or contained in the RV all week while at the rally was a little bit too much for them.
I will have to take a picture of our campsite for tomorrow's blog. This is the field next to us, just beyond the swimming pool! We had a chance to empty our grey and black water tanks, fill our rig with fresh water and fuel and do our laundry today. That's a good feeling! We also took a run into the town about 10 miles from here to get some groceries and other supplies.
Gary made some adjustments to his ham radio and was able to broadcast without affecting our electrical systems in the RV. He talked to someone from St. Louis who updated us on weather forecasts. I think the weather will still be hot, but no bad storms in our region.

Tomorrow we should be going to Lincoln's birthplace, Steven Foster's "My Old Kentucky Home" and Fort Knox. Later in the afternoon we may even take a swim in the pool at the campground. Wednesday we will go back to Louisville to see the Louisville Slugger Museum, Thomas Edison's home and the temple. We didn't have time to see these sites while we were at the rally so we decided to stay around the area a few extra days to do so!

By Friday or Saturday we will be in Gardner, Kansas to see my cousin Wes and Nancie. We will stop in St. Louis for 1 or 2 nights and make sure we have time to go to the temple there!

Enough gabbing. I have laundry to fold! Hopefully we'll have some great photos to share tomorrow night.
