Sun & Mon - Good-bye Dave & Doris, Hello Rally!

Dave & Doris lost their lodging as we packed up the motor home this morning. We had a great time visiting with them and wish we could have spent more than the weekend together. They did get a taste of the RV life and look forward to having their own some day.

Even though their sleep wasn't the greatest they did manage to smile!
Dave helped make sure Gary could get out of our camping spot. He and Doris drove their truck to see us and did the transporting while we were together. I'm sure he would have liked to try driving the RV but it did not work out this time.
One last hug for the brother and sister duo and we had to part our ways. We headed west and Dave & Doris headed southeast. I'm not sure when we will be able to see them again - but we will figure out something!
So, we were off to Kentucky. It was a lot shorter and easier drive than Friday. We didn't break any hoses so it was also uneventful! It was pretty, though, as most of the drive the interstate was bordered by green trees and or grasses. Getting into Louisville was a little challenging due to road work and lots of interchanges to watch out for but we made it with plenty of time to spare.

We are staying on the premises of the Kentucky Exposition Center. Of course, you still need to look at this through the 'bug" window. Maybe while we are here we'll get the windshield clean!!
It's hot and humid and we were really happy to find out they turned the electric supply on two days early. It only makes sense that if you want volunteer workers to come in two days early they should have electricity available then!

Last night (Sunday) the rally volunteers were fed dinner and had their assignments given out. Gary is parking RV's for Tues, Wed & Thur mornings. I am parking RV's with him on Tues and Wed and working at the "Publications Day' event on Thursday. We still are scheduled to help out on "Good Sam Day" on Saturday as the representatives from Nevada. We have booklets from the Nevada Tourism Commission to hand out and flyers for our Nevada State Samboree that will be held in Winnemucca in September. We also will be part of the opening ceremonies as they have the flags from all the states brought in by the state directors or representatives!

Today (Monday) we had a 7 am training meeting to see where and when we would be parking the RV's. We are lucky to have the "Handicap" section as it is right next to our volunteer parking section. We are also glad to have the morning shift (7 am to noon) as it will be quite hot in the afternoon. Even so, we will need to drink lots of water and make sure we have sunscreen and hats!
After our training we hopped in our truck and went down the interstate to check out a model log home. Gary asked lots of questions, I checked out room sizes and had a few questions, too. They gave us some information about building and designing our own log home and also gave us their booklet of basic plans. Still a dream for the future - we'll see. We did mange to find a Walmart and Lowes so that we could get the few odds and ends we needed. Lady had gotten into our protein bars and was quite sick on Sunday and last night so we bought some 'Febreeze' to help freshen up the motorhome.
A nice wind/thunderstorm came through and we had enough warning to put away all of our chairs, flags and awnings before it hit. We had about as much rain from it as we normally do in Dayton - it was forecast much worse. Maybe more will come tonight??

Tomorrow we will start our parking duty in the morning and have the afternoon off. The official rally doesn't begin until Wednesday so we will try to find the Louisville Temple in the afternoon and see if we can go in for a session.
We hope everyone home is happy and healthy. I only wish all could have a chance to travel and see the country we are seeing.
