We had fireflies the first night we were in camp, but since it rained last night we didn't get to see them again. The weather forecast says rain through Friday. Most of our driving was in cloudy conditions today though we did have our occasional showers. We left Greenwood Nebraska about 8:30 this morning and it didn't take us too long to cross into Iowa.
We stopped in Colfax, Iowa to see "Trainland, USA." Several people spent 4 1/2 years building a wonderful train layout with Lionel trains. They depict the various areas around the US and have at least 23 trains running at all times. There are buttons you can push that move some of the pieces and every 1o minutes the lights go out so that you can see the scenes in the dark. One of the displays even has fireworks that light up in the night!
After visiting the train museum we ate lunch at McD's. That is the first fast-food place we have stopped at since we began our trip and only the second time eating out! We've been doing real well fixing meals in our RV!
This windmill is a working mill in Pella, Iowa. The town was settled by Danish immigrants and some of the historic buildings have been kept or restored to their original shape. We went into the visitor center at this mill and looked at the displays but decided not to pay the money for a tour as it was still raining and we wanted to get on our way.
This is our campsite - taken from in our motor home as it is pouring rain this evening. The camper next to us said it rained 2 inches last night. I think it has already rained that much since we have been here.
We plan a day in Nauvoo tomorrow, rain or shine. We will go to the Nauvoo Temple, then walk around the town and see the historical buildings. A visit to Carthage Jail, where Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum were killed, is only a few miles away so we will go see that as well. If the weather dries out at all we would like to see the Nauvoo Pageant which begins tomorrow night.
We are glad to hear that some of our friends and family are watching our daily blog. Don't be afraid to make a comment - we would love to hear from you. You will see a prompt at the end of the daily entry - try it!
Gary took one of the dogs out to "do it's duty" and they both came back drenched. I get the honors of taking the other one out, so I guess I had better sign off for tonight.

Rain, rain go away! Sorry it's so soggy for you. There is some comfort that it may keep the crowds away.
ReplyDeleteHi, it's me..........Mom,
ReplyDeleteLove reading your blog. Now I need to get a map to get it all straight in my head. I hear the temperature in the East are horrible. I feel for everyone. At least you have your own air conditioning.
We took Buddy to the vet yesterday because of his itching. Got the same medicine as last time. Now just to wait for it to take affect.
Dad is gambling today. I stayed home mainly because of back spasm problems. It takes me 10 minutes to get out of bed, but once I am up it isn't too bad.
Happy traveling............Mom and Dad
