Tues & Wed - Neither RAIN, nor HEAT, nor HUMIDITY will keep us from our volunteer job!

I don't really have pictures for the past two days as we were working - or resting from our work! Like most of the midwest and eastern part of the country we have been caught up in thunderstorms and high heat & humidity. Though we only had a few "Nevada" drops of rain on Monday night we were awaken with a deluge on Tuesday morning. I think we had a year's worth of Dayton rain in one morning! Gary and I were working the early shift of parking RV's in the handicapped section of the rally. It is amazing how many chose to go 'dry' camping instead of having electric hookups. I don't think I could have managed (nor the dogs) if we hadn't had the electricity to run one air conditioner. The humidity just zaps all the energy out of us.
I know you can't see this picture very well but Gary is in the green vest closest to the golf cart. He was in charge of lining up the RV's in their 20 x 40 foot spaces. I was in charge of getting the 'dry' and 'electric' campers separated, having them unhook their towables, getting them ready to follow the golf cart, and giving them some basic information about registration. Our shift was supposed to end at noon but we worked until 3:30 because of the influx of RV's and the lack of ability of the people in the shift that followed us.

Again, this isn't a great picture but if you can imagine over 3,500 rigs being parked around the Kentucky Expo grounds you might understand the magnitude of the rally!
Today Gary continued to set the RV's in place and I had a new job. I was sent further up the line to separate handicapped from non-handicapped campers and give them directions to where Gary would park them. I was near a shuttle stop so I got a chance to talk to attendees as they waited for their ride.
We had off and on thunderstorms until about 10 am so we basically alternated between wet and hot/humid conditions! When we took the dogs out for a walk at 6:30 am the clouds let loose and we were all soaked to the bone by time we got back to our rig. At least it was warm!
Speaking of dogs ... Apollo and Lady are doing okay. They like to be mischievous when we leave them in the RV but they aren't doing damage!!! It will be nice when we can let them run or swim instead of being on a leash all the time. I am thankful we can leave them in the air conditioning when we work or attend the rally.
We put in another overtime day today but finally went in to the expo center later this afternoon. The seminar I had wanted to see was already over, but we did pick up our mail and get to preview the RV's on exhibit. (We are perfectly happy with ours, but it is interesting to see what they have come up with for 2011) Tomorrow the Rally officially starts. Gary will still park handicapped RVers but I will be working in the 'Publications' event. Both of us will be in the opening ceremony tomorrow night representing Nevada so we have a rehearsal tomorrow as well. By mid-afternoon we should be done with our 'volunteer' jobs and be able to enjoy the rally.
The weather (and sun) have made us exhausted so it's early to bed tonight. We have been drinking lots of water but didn't even feel like having dinner tonight. Maybe we'll both lose a few pounds - couldn't hurt!
We'll try to get more interesting pictures in for the next blog. I'll bring my camera to the rally!
